Samples of my videos & webinars

What do I look like when I present online or onsite?

Here are some examples of my video presentations, webinars and onsite presenting – some recorded from my home office, some recorded onsite elsewhere, and all on YouTube. Note that these vary hugely in quality – most times, no one is staffing the camera and there is no special audio equipment other than built-in microphones being used.

All of these and more are on YouTube on my channel’s training playlist).

Short presentations:

There are free online workshops by me, which you can view any time on YouTube, on a variety of volunteer-related subjects – these are more than 45 – 60 minutes long:

Even more online presentations available for your viewing:

  • Virtual Volunteering as An Avenue for Employee Engagement
In this 2014 webinar for TechSoup, myself and Kaye Morgan-Curtis of Newell Rubbermaid talk about how for-profit companies/corporations are leveraging virtual volunteering to engage employees who might not have otherwise been able to participate in employee volunteering programs. This was via YouTube.
  • The Right Way to Engage Online Volunteers
In this 2014 webinar for VolunteerMatch, I discussed the how to best involve online volunteers in your organization’s work. How can you create a great online volunteer opportunity? What are the best ways to support online volunteers? How should you be tracking the impact of your online volunteers? Attendees accessed the webinar via their own laptops, and were geographically dispersed (they weren’t all in a room together). This was via ReadyTalk.
  • Social Media for Volunteer Managing and More
In this 2011 webinar for TechSoup, I and Erin Barnhart discuss tips and strategies for effectively using social media to find, communicate with, and build community among volunteers. Attendees accessed the webinar via their own laptops, and were geographically dispersed (they weren’t all in a room together). This was via ReadyTalk.
  • OpenAIR – great opportunity for nonprofits, NGOs & charities
this is a short video pitch I made to encourage involvement in a pioneering hackathon by Knowbility, a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. This video was part of my efforts to recruit 30 nonprofits to participate in OpenAIR (I did, indeed, meet that goal).
  • Webinar – Tech 101: The Best Assignments for Online Volunteers
This is a webinar I did for TechSoup, a nonprofit based in San Francisco. It is about one hour. It is a slide show – I’m on audio only.
  • Online Community Members as Volunteers
This was a presentation I did onsite at the TechSoup offices in San Francisco as a part of the SF Community Managers #octribe meetup.
  • Knowbility 2018 OpenAIR Kick Off Event
I not only hosted the event, I also edited this video from over two hours down to just over an hour, and I closed captioned the video myself. I appear starting at 14:50
  • Real Tech Tools for Real People
This is a workshop I did at Portland State University for a conference hosted by Oregon Volunteers, the state office of volunteerism, for members of national service programs – AmeriCorps, VISTA and SeniorCorps – in Oregon. This workshop reviewed all aspects of using the Internet and other tech network tools, including social media and smart phone apps, to work with volunteers. I reviewed using these tools for recruitment, support to volunteers, recognition of volunteers, building community among volunteers, and more. This was not a “techy” workshop about “virtual” tools – it was a practical, down-to-earth workshop about real tools, for real people.
  • My video answers to interview questions for UN Digital Media Officer roster (4:48).
I did, indeed, make the UN roster as a result of this and my other application materials and a phone interview (but still haven’t deployed as a result of being on this particular roster)
  • Welcome to the new online volunteers of the Aid Workers Network. (5:32)
An informal welcome to the new online volunteers for the Aid Workers Network. AWN is defunct, but I’ve kept this video up as an example of how a nonprofit can use video to welcome and orient new volunteers.

If you have benefited from this blog or other parts of my web site and would like to support the time that went into researching information, developing material, preparing articles, updating pages, etc. (I receive no funding for this work), here is how you can help.
