I
have a robust YouTube Channel (thanks to everyone who has
subscribed) with a playlist of my trainings (thanks to everyone who has
liked the various videos there) as well as playlists of other subjects
I'm interested in sharing (such as my
travels), but I don't have many podcasts or other audio-only
files. The ones I do have, at last, I have compiled here.
All of these files can be listened to via my web site (streaming) or
you can download any of them and listen to them offline, as you like.
If you produce your own podcast and have an affordable streaming option
you would like to recommend, please let
me know. I really have no idea how you get podcasts on
Spotify and all those other places, and would really appreciate guidance
from a DIY person (like me).
If I do new podcasts, they will be announced via my
blog. My blog provides the avenue for you to share public comments
about any of these podcasts.
- Online
Community Management as Volunteer Management (about 40
minutes)
This audio from a presentation I did on January 21, 2014 for a group
called OCTribe, a monthly in-person meeting in San Francisco that was
also live-streamed on YouTube. It was a meetup for online community
managers, enthusiasts and innovators interested in social networking
applications, social media and online group collaboration. “We discuss
tools and strategies to enhance participation in the various online
communities we support.” My presentation is exactly as it is titled:
online community management as volunteer management. I look at
participants in an online community as volunteers - they aren't paid
to participate, they aren't paid to contribute, and yet, they do. I
think cultivating new community members is a lot like cultivating new
volunteers, I think supporting and keeping community members is a lot
like cultivating new volunteers, and on and on. You can also view

- Short interview on an
Australian radio station (6 minutes 40 seconds)
In 2010, I toured Austraiia for two weeks doing presentations about
volunteer engagement, including virtual volunteering and diversity and
inclusion in volunteer engagement at nonprofits, charities and other
community groups. As part of that tour, I did a short radio interview
at a Bunbury radio station in Western Australia, south of Perth, about
virtual volunteering and valuing volunteers in general.

Considering Their Own Podcasts: Why It's Worth Exploring, and
Content Considerations (about 7 minutes)
Back in 2006, I wanted to show nonprofits, NGOs, charities, government
agencies and other cause-based organizations just how easy it was to
create an audio file - a podcast - and upload it to a web site to make
it available to anyone who wanted to listen to it, either online,
streaming, or by downloading it. So I did a very simple podcast
about... well, podcasting. I talk about how podcasts can be used by
nonprofits, and just how easy it is to do, etc. You can stream
it or download the mp3 file and listen to it offline. The file
is 3.3 MB. Either way, you get to listen to me drone on for seven
minutes and 20 seconds. I speak slowly, for people who are non-native
English speakers. The transcript
of the podcast is also available (you should ALWAYS provide a
transcript of your podcast, for both people with hearing impairments,
people who prefer to read, and people for whom English is not their
first language.
- In 2001, I blabbled to the folks at Tech Ranch, a
then-nationally-syndicated radio program, which featured my ramblings
for an entire week from Germany while working for the United Nations,
managing the online volunteering service. These are very short
interviews (each less than 60 seconds).
My Book
My book is not available as an audio file, but I'm thinking about it. If I
got enough demand for it, I absolutely would do it.
