Coyote Helps is a nonprofit in the making (501 c 3
status pending). Coyote Helps is run entirely by volunteers -
unpaid staff. The founder is a volunteer herself and receives no
monetary payment for her time in managing the efforts of this
nonprofit.
New members of the leadership team are recruited from the ranks of CoyoteHelps volunteers.
Coyote Helps needs to always have at least three board members.
Board members receive no financial compensation and, unlike with
most nonprofits, Coyote Helps board members are NOT required to
donate financially to the organization.
Board members are asked to read a quarterly update and react to
it, if they have a reaction to such. Board members will make most
decisions, if decisions are required, via a private Reddit online
group and/or via email. Board members will meet by video chat only
if necessary. The draft Coyote Helps Bylaws are here.
Jayne Cravens.
Jayne is the Founder and President of the Board of Directors for
Coyote Helps. Like all board members, her role is as a volunteer -
unpaid. Jayne
has been online since 1993. She was one of the first
moderators of the soc.org.nonprofit
USENET newsgroup and was one of the first people to encourage
nonprofits to leverage the Internet for community outreach,
awareness-building, program promotion, fundraising and, of course,
virtual volunteering. Professionally, she is a veteran manager of
various local and international initiatives, including United
Nations programs, and has worked in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Germany,
Egypt, Serbia and Poland, among other countries, in addition to
the USA. For more than a decade she tracked practices to prevent folklore, fake news
and rumors from derailing humanitarian aid and development
activities. She has been quoted in articles in The New
York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the
Associated Press, as well as for reports by CNN, Deutsche Well,
and the BBC. She was the Fall 2015 Duvall Leader in Residence at
the University of Kentucky’s Center for Leadership Development and
has guest lectured at classes at Portland State University, the
University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at
Arlington School of Social Work, and St. Edward's University.
Jayne was a co-winner of the 2003 Dewey Winburne Community Service
Award. She has volunteered for a variety of nonprofits, including
Habitat for Humanity International, BPeace,, the Pacific Refugee
Support Group, the American Red Cross, the Girl Scouts of the USA,
and Wikipedia.
Jayne received her BA in Journalism from Western Kentucky University and
her Master's degree in
Development Management from Open University in the U.K. A
native of Kentucky, she lived in Germany for eight years and has
visited more than 35 countries, some of them by motorcycle. She is
based near Portland, Oregon in the USA. Here is Jayne's LinkedIn
