{"id":505,"date":"2013-08-31T04:10:15","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T11:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coyotecommunications.com\/coyoteblog\/?p=505"},"modified":"2013-08-22T17:39:58","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T00:39:58","slug":"badges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coyotecommunications.com\/coyoteblog\/2013\/08\/badges\/","title":{"rendered":"I need your (not so stinking) badges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some organizations give out online badges when an online user reaches a certain level of usage, reaches a certain milestone, proves a set of skills or knowledge via an online quiz, etc.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, here are a\u00a0<strong><a title=\"http:\/\/contributor.yahoo.com\/community\/badges\/\" href=\"http:\/\/contributor.yahoo.com\/community\/badges\/\">list of Yahoo contributor badges<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that are awarded to users that have completed a part of their academy, achieved a certain level of popularity, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"TechSoup also has badges\" href=\"http:\/\/forums.techsoup.org\/cs\/p\/star.aspx\">TechSoup also has badges<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for contributors to the TechSoup Forum that reach certain milestones or take on certain roles.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s one for\u00a0<a title=\"vetted volunteers with Translators Without Borders\" href=\"http:\/\/www.proz.com\/forum\/prozcom%3A_translator_coop\/204463-a_new_badge_for_translators_without_borders.html\">vetted volunteers with Translators Without Borders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cary, North Carolina has four different <a title=\" &amp;ldquo;Cary It Green&amp;rdquo; badges\" href=\"http:\/\/www.townofcary.org\/Departments\/Administration\/pio\/News_Releases\/news2013\/nr_joulebug.htm\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cCary It Green\u201d badges<\/a>\u00a0or online pins to &#8220;help Cary residents learn eco-friendly tips and take advantage of the Town\u2019s environmental programs and amenities. Users earn points and badges for their green achievements, share their actions with friends, and see how they rank among others in the community. By tracking simple actions on their smartphones \u2014 from replacing light bulbs to installing a rain barrel to telecommuting \u2014 players can save time, energy and money and challenge their friends to do the same&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTrash to Treasure\u201d&#8211;donating an item instead of throwing it away;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAquastar\u201d&#8211;logging into your online Aquastar account,;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSpruce It Up\u201d&#8211;volunteering for a green volunteer project; and<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPark Place\u201d&#8211;walking or biking a Cary greenway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TakingITGlobal has a\u00a0<a title=\"series of badges\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tigweb.org\/action-tools\/badges\/\">series of badges<\/a>\u00a0for its online contributors.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"TripAdvisor has several badges\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/help\/what_do_the_different_color_badges_mean\" target=\"_blank\">TripAdvisor has several badges<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/help\/what_are_stae_star_badges\" target=\"_new\">Reviewer\u00a0<em>badges<\/em><\/a>, sometimes called Star\u00a0<em>Badges<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Category\u00a0<em>badge<\/em>: shows if the writer has reviewed many businesses of the type you are currently viewing.
