{"id":295,"date":"2010-12-06T14:56:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-06T14:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coyoteblog.posterous.com\/baby-boomer-volunteers-dont-believe-all-of-th"},"modified":"2017-03-09T11:58:05","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T19:58:05","slug":"baby-boomer-volunteers-dont-believe-all-of-th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coyotecommunications.com\/coyoteblog\/2010\/12\/baby-boomer-volunteers-dont-believe-all-of-th\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Boomer Volunteers &#8211; don&#8217;t believe all of the hype"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Volunteer researchers and consultants have been talking about how new retirees from the &#8220;Baby Boomer&#8221; generation (born between 1946 and 1964) will affect volunteer support and involvement since at least the 1990s. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.forumer.com\/jcravens\/43919\/Changes+in+working+with+volunteers+--+scary+%26amp%3B+energizing.html\" target=\"_self\">I did a presentation back in 1998 or so about such, to an incredulous audience<\/a>; I did <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.forumer.com\/jcravens\/44078\/Trends+in+volunteerism+-+are+you+harnessing+these+yet%3F!.html\" target=\"_self\">an updated version of the same presentation just this year<\/a>, more than 10 years later, and the audience was completely receptive, probably because they have already worked with so many volunteers from that generation.<\/p>\n<p>The Baby Boomer generation volunteers differently than the greatest generation &#8211; that&#8217;s something I think most everyone agrees on. However, some of the expectations and predictions about what more Baby Boomer volunteers really mean for volunteer managers are&#8230; well, they are &#8220;out there.&#8221; Andy Fryer does a great job at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ozvpm.com\/hottopics.php\" target=\"_self\">his December OzVPM blog of talking about the realities of involving Baby Boomer volunteers &#8212; and countering the hype<\/a>.
