Yes, it has only 8.5% Internet penetration, but it also has at least 100 million Internet users. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.internetworldstats.com\/asia.htm#in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here&#8217;s where I got this info<\/a>, in addition to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikipedia.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>In short, India is <em>really<\/em> big and <em>really<\/em> important.<\/p>\n<p>But go to any online search engine and search for<\/p>\n<p><em>volunteer India<\/em><\/p>\n<p>and the links generated are for Westerners &#8211; people from Europe or North America or Australia &#8211; to travel to India and volunteer.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>people in India want to volunteer in their own communities, with local NGOs. <\/strong>On <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.yahoo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YahooAnswers<\/a>,  people from India, in India, regularly post and ask where they can  volunteer locally, in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai,  Pune, and on and on. Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.yahoo.com\/question\/index;_ylt=Aj4xZdCatkRVeBiaC68ci6wjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20110313095545AAvlIJ6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an example of one such person<\/a>. <strong>Where is the online resource for people in India to find volunteering opportunities in their own communities and to learn how to be a great volunteer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ivolunteer.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IVolunteer.in<\/a> comes close to trying. It&#8217;s an initiative of MITRA, a not-for-profit organization  in  Delhi. But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ivolunteer.in\/IVolunteerHome\/SiteUser\/AdvancedSearch.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its database interface<\/a> doesn&#8217;t allow a search by community, and seems to not be working properly &#8211; I did several searches using different criteria, and came up with no volunteer opportunities at all.<\/p>\n<p>Is there really no kind-of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.volunteermatch.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VolunteerMatch<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.AllforGood.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AllforGood<\/a> for India? Really?<\/p>\n<p>And what about a primary resource to help local NGOs in India build their capacities regarding financial management, fundraising, HR management, volunteer engagement, marketing and other key functions? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ngopulse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Africa has one<\/a>. But not India? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ngosindia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NGOsIndia.com<\/a> comes close to trying&#8230;. but is far from there.<\/p>\n<p>If you know of web sites that address either of these issues, please note such in the comments section.
