In 2011, Stefan had a business trip to Mexico City, and I tagged along. We toured a bit of Mexico City, seeing the Museo de Antropología and the utterly enchanting Coyoacan, including where Frida Kahlo lived. I also toured Teotihuacan and Cholula and saw a bit of Puebla.
In 2020, we toured Baja, California, Mexico on our motorcycles.
What's next?
Possibly Copper Canyon by motorcycle. I may not be a good enough motorcycle rider, however.
I'd love to go back to Baja and do a different trip this time, one to see whales and go on some of the side roads. And back to Loreto, of course!
I would love to visit any of the Pueblos Mágicos, by motorcycle or flying down. These are a series of towns throughout Mexico that the government has officially recognized as offering visitors a "magical" experience, per their natural beauty, cultural richness, traditions, folklore, historical relevance, cuisine, art crafts and great hospitality. We have visited three of them - Loreto and Todos Santos in Baja, and Cholula in Puebla. Loreto in particular was most definitely magical. We've been through Tecate, and I would like to go back, despite The Incident. I would like to see Colima, Batopilas, Huautla de Jiménez, San Pablo Villa de Mitla, and some of the cities designated Pueblos Mágicos in Michoacán.
I have been toying with the idea of two weeks studying Spanish in Oaxaca. If I went, I could see Huautla de Jiménez, San Pablo Villa de Mitla, and the massive archeological site of Monte Albán.
I'd love to see the pyramids and complex ruins at Chichén Itzá, Uxmal in Yucatán, Tulum, Cobá (near Chichén Itzá and Tulum) and Palenque.
I'd like to see Campeche City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and San Miguel de Allende - an old section of the town is part of a proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
And if we get back to Mexico City, I'd like to see some of the Barrios Mágicos of Mexico City. Coyoacan is one of those neighborhoods, as are the Roma-Condesa zone, the historic center of Xochimilco, San Ángel, San Agustín de la Cuevas (historic center of Tlalpan), Santa María la Ribera, Zona Rosa, Garibaldi, Villa de Guadalupe, Mixcoac, Tacubaya, Santa María Magdalena Atlitic, historic center of Azcapotzalco, La Merced, Mixquic, historic center of Cuajimalpa, San Pedro Atocpan, Pueblo Culhuacán, Tacuba, Santa Julia and the historic center of Iztacalco
Some of my favorite photos from my travels. Very hard to pick favorites.
