Sanchez Elementary School Online Mentoring Program

The People Behind this Project

Teachers Genny Gamboa and Jim Wahrer are directing this project for their fourth graders at Sanchez Elementary School.

Teacher Sally Duncan is directing this project for her fifth graders at Sanchez Elementary School.

All exchanges between mentors and students are subject to their review, as well as to the review of an appointed volunteer. All messages sent to the feedback form go to the teachers as well.

The teachers will also periodically send out reminders to mentors, individually or as a group, about subjects to discuss with students.

Jayne Cravens at the Virtual Volunteering Project is the author of these online mentoring materials, and initally supervised all exchanges between online mentors and students as well (this was taken over at a later date by the teachers and an appointed volunteer).

Jayne will also compile feedback from pre-and post-program surveys, and learnings from this program to share with others interested in starting or maintaining an online mentoring program.

Venkat Ganti, who has frequently volunteered with the Virtual Volunteering Project, worked as a paid contractor to develop the interactive portion of this web site, allowing students and mentors to exchange private communications, allowing Jayne or the teachers to view exchanges and to pre-approve mentor e-mails to students, and archiving all communications sent via the Web site.

If you ever wish to communicate with the program team for this project, please use our feedback form. All messages are answered within 48 hours of receipt (two business days; excludes holidays and weekends).

If you have an emergency, please see our guidelines for handling crisis situations.

This program was funded, in part, by the generous support of:

This web site was written and designed by Jayne Cravens of the Virtual Volunteering Project, except for the interactive areas (where the mentors and students exchange e-mails) and online safety systems, which were designed by Venkat Ganti.

The dinosaur clip art on this web site was colorized by Noreen Strehlow and downloaded from her web site.
