Sanchez Elementary School Online Mentoring Program Online Mentor Profile

I am
34 years old
My birthday is
January 15
I have 2 brothers
I have
1 sister
I live in
Henderson, Kentucky
I was born in
Spottsville, Kentucky
When I was young, I looked up to:
My grandmother. She was the daughter of a sharecropper -- that means her father was a farmer, but he didn't own his own land. He had to pay someone to let him raise crops. She grew up with five brothers and a sister, and lived in a very poor, remote area of Kentucky. She worked very hard to learn about the world and differences in people and cultures, despite having a limited education and few chances to travel. She read to me constantly, and let me read to her. I always wanted to be like her, and I still do!
What were your favorite books when you were in elementary school? And if you've recently read books appropriate for elementary readers (like "Harry Potter"), please note them here as well:
I loved "Mrs. Frisbee and the Rats of NIMH," "Julia of the Wolves," "The Wind in the Door", and "A Wrinkle in Time." I read all of those when I was in the fourth and fifth grade. I still love books for elementary school students -- I recently read "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" and "The Midwife's Apprentice." And I've read all of the Harry Potter books!
What states/cities/countries have you lived in, or visited?
I've been just across the border of Brownsville, Texas into Mexico. I've also been to London, England (and other English cities as well). I've lived in Kentucky, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, California and, now, Texas!
If you were Ruler of the Earth for one week, the three things you would do/change would be:
Every child would be well fed, every child would get free health care, and music education would be a regular part of school!
